Most of us have at least one fear. The question is, do you let it stop you? Have you done something recently that made you feel like you were conquering a big fear? It is such a great feeling when you realize that you are stronger and more brave than you give yourself credit for. I recently addressed a fear I have of public speaking when I did an hour long radio interview with Dr. Saskia Cote’ on Valley Free Radio “Alternatively Speaking”.
It was a big stretch for me to do this! I was afraid of being asked a question that I did’t know the answer to. Or that I’d stumble over my words and come across as sounding unintelligent. I felt vulnerable putting myself in a position to be judged. After about 10 minutes, I couldn’t imagine what else I could talk about another 50 minutes! Saskia did an excellent job at keeping me engaged in questions, which helped me to relax. Even though I had big earphones on and was talking in to a large microphone, I pretended that I was in a living room having a conversation with a friend. I felt a big sense of relief when it was over. I also felt a sense of accomplishment that I had done something that was outside of my comfort zone.
I encourage you to continue to stretch and grow and to acknowledge the many ways in which your greatness touches others. You are uniquely needed in the world. I would love to hear from you about a fear you recently addressed.
