The Integumentary System consists of:
Skin, Hair, Nails, Sense Receptors, Sweat Glands, Oil Glands
This system and its organs form the outermost layer of the body, acting as a protective barrier to both our external and internal environment. The skin is the largest (and heaviest!) organ of the body and therefore the most important organ of the integumentary system. The skin is a sophisticated sense organ and responds to pain, pressure, temperature and touch. One of the most crucial functions of the skin is that of protection, such as protecting us against harmful bacteria and toxins.
Having been a holistic esthetician for years, I know that Silica is good for healthy skin, hair and nails. It is helpful for prematurely aging skin that has a loss of elasticity. Got brittle hair and nails? Silica can help. Silica can be found in Agate, Amazonite, Aventurine, Chalcedony, Jasper, Obsidian, Quartz Crystals and Tourmaline. (Per Stone Medicine)
Because one of the main functions of the skin is protection, I chose Black Tourmaline as the crystal this month. Black Tourmaline acts as a protective shield by deflecting negativity rather than absorbing it. It helps to ground and purify toxic energy and transform it into a more useful form. This protection is similar to the functions of the outer layer of our body, the skin.
You can purchase Black Tourmaline here.
