The Use Of Alcohol In Skin Care Preparations
There is a general misunderstanding in the cosmetic market concerning alcohol and its use. Alcohol comes in different qualities and is used for different purposes. Alcohol used in very concentrated amounts can cause drying.
The Alcohol used in Dr. Hauschka Skin Care preparations is of the highest food quality standard and is made from apples, potatoes or grain. The alcohol is not chemically produced but is steam distilled. All alcohol that is used in cosmetics is denatured, but rather than using chemicals to denature the alcohol, WALA, the producer of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care preparations, uses essential oil of rose and rosemary as its denaturing agents.
Herbs and flowers are the core of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care preparations. There are three different mediums in which these plant materials are extracted: water, oil and alcohol/water. WALA uses alcohol as an extracting medium because it is the only way that some plant substances can be brought or carried to the product. The extract is made over a period of seven days and during the seven days the solution is exposed to beneficial aspects of the unique WALA seven day rhythmical process. The alcohol extracts are then used in Dr. Hauschka compositions of skin preparations.
The percentage of alcohol used does not approach a concentration that would be considered drying. The alcohol is used for the purpose of extracting the essential qualities of plants and flower, preserving these qualities so that they can be quickly absorbed by the skin. WALA’s tests conclusively prove that Dr. Hauschka’s alcohol extracted products have absolutely no drying or irritating effects on the skin.
Just one of the many reasons why I am a Dr. Hauschka snob:) Hope you find this helpful and interesting.
